Bringing Your Model Train Vision to Life—Effortlessly
Getting started with model trains can be overwhelming. Space, budget, skill level, realism—there’s a lot to consider when choosing the right setup. At WhimsiTrack, we simplify the process by offering custom accessory kits that match your unique vision, no matter the size or complexity of your layout.

Big trains can hug tight corners, and small trains can fill a room—we’re here to support whatever dream you have in mind.

You focus on the creative part—designing your world—and let us provide the personalized touches that make it come to life.

Size

Model trains come in a variety of sizes, and these sizes are referred to as "gauges." Simply put, gauge is the distance between the rails on the track—and it determines the scale of the train that runs on it.

Here’s a helpful tip:

The bigger the letter, the smaller the train.

For example:

  • G Gauge – One of the largest, often used outdoors.

  • O Gauge – A classic choice, popular for collectible displays.

  • HO Gauge – The most popular scale, offering a balance of detail and space-saving size.

  • N Gauge – Much smaller, great for tight spaces or intricate layouts.

  • Z Gauge – Tiny and incredibly detailed, perfect for compact or portable displays.

  •

Each gauge offers different possibilities based on your available space, desired level of detail, and overall layout goals. Whatever size you choose, WhimsiTrack has custom accessory kits made to fit your gauge and bring your layout to life.

Style

Model trains come in a variety of styles, each inspired by real-world locomotives from different eras and regions. Choosing a style helps set the mood and theme of your layout.

  • Steam Engines – Classic and full of character, steam locomotives are perfect for historical or vintage settings. With their billowing smoke and iconic chug-chug sounds, they capture the golden age of rail.

  • Diesel Locomotives – A favorite for mid-20th century to modern layouts, diesel engines are powerful, practical, and come in a wide range of colorful liveries.

  • Trams & Streetcars – Great for urban or city-style layouts, trams bring a touch of charm and nostalgia to any scene. They’re compact and ideal for layouts with tight turns and smaller spaces.

No matter which style speaks to you, WhimsiTrack creates custom accessory kits to match your theme—down to the tiniest detail.

Design

Some modelers love recreating real-world places with stunning accuracy—famous train stations, mountain ranges, or small-town main streets. And that’s great!

But at WhimsiTrack, we believe creativity doesn’t stop at the tracks.
Cupcake mountains? Pink grass? A glow-in-the-dark underwater cave?
Absolutely.

Whether you're dreaming up an upside-down city on your ceiling, a floating island railway, or something no one's ever seen before—we’re here for it.

You dream it. We help bring it to life with custom accessory kits made to match your one-of-a-kind vision.
